NFBPA DC CHAPTER PRES. CALLS GOLF TOURNAMENT “HUGE SUCCESS”
Tournament far exceeded goal of $10,000 scholarship fund.
Title sponsor on board for 2011.
(Washington, DC) William O. Howland, Jr, President, National Forum for Black Public Administrators DC Chapter, called the July 15, 2010 4th District Cup Golf Tournament a “huge success.” The tournament was held at Langston Legacy Golf Course in Washington, DC, and raised more than $33,000.

“The big winners are the four public administration students we will select to receive a $2,500 academic scholarship,” said Mr. Howland. “I want to thank our sponsors, especially, Malcolm Pirnie, a century old environmental consulting firm and our 2010 title sponsor, for supporting our vision of well-educated future public administrators. The contributions made by Malcolm Pirnie and our other sponsors far exceeded our goal of $10,000.

“I am happy to announce that Malcolm Pirnie already has signed up as title sponsor for next year’s 5th District Cup Golf Tournament. We are grateful for their continuing support.” Mr. Howland noted, “Within NFBPA’s mission is the commitment to ‘. . . groom and prepare younger, aspiring administrators for senior public management posts in the years ahead.’ We are planning now for the 5th District Cup, July 21, 2011 at Langston Legacy Golf Course, so we can help other public administration scholars achieve their academic dream. ”

Mr. Howland noted that the sponsors’ teams as well as the individual players are highly competitive on the golf course. Here are the winning teams and individuals:

First Place – Regional Electric & Mechanical
Second Place – AF Development
Third Place – Independent
Women’s Longest Drive – Veronica Minor
Women’s Closest to the Pin – Sherica Starling
Men’s Longest Drive – Rod Davis

Men’s Closest to the Pin – Mark Shelton

“Our sponsors share our belief that the cost of education is steep so they gave generously to ensure public administration scholars are able to concentrate on their studies rather than making ends meet,” said Mr. Howland. Here are the 4th District Cup Golf Tournament sponsors:
